Burlesque tributes to Alice Cooper and Prince, and a musical salute to Amy Winehouse

In the coming weeks, Vancouver performers are paying tribute to three artists- two, sadly, no longer with us, and another who is but probably deserves a tribute because it’s Halloween or something.

Anyway, we’re talking about Amy Winehouse, Alice Cooper and Prince. Two of the shows combine burlesque and song, while one is straight-up music.

First up is The Amy Winehouse Halloween Extravaganza on Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Cobalt (917 Main St.). A band featuring members of local acts The Ballantynes, The Valuables, Chance Lovett and the Broken Hearted, and If We Are Machines salute the 10th anniversary of the late singer’s landmark album Back to Black. Tickets are $15 at Red Cat Records (4332 Main St. and 2447 E. Hastings St.) and Neptoon Records (3561 Main St.).

Second up is Welcome to the Nightmare! This tribute to theatrical (and still touring, never mind living) rocker Alice Cooper combines a live band with burlesque performers on the night before Halloween (Sun., Oct. 30) at the Biltmore Cabaret (2755 Prince Edward St.).

From the Facebook event page: “Witness the mayhem as this Alice goes down a very different rabbit hole into a sexy nightmare filled with fascinating burlesque performers dancing to some of Alice Cooper’s greatest hits played live on the fabulous Biltmore stage!” Said performers include Burgundy Brixx as Alice Cooper and The Purrrfessor as The Museum Keeper, with MZ B HAVEN as The Black Widow, Lolita DeVille as Cold Ethel, and more. Tickets are $12 advance on Ticketfly and $15 at the door. VIP Reserved Tables available for an additional cost at kittynights.com.

And last but not least, A Live Rock Burlesque Tribute to Prince on Nov. 10 at the Rio Theatre (1660 E. Broadway, 8 p.m., $15 in advance at kittynights.com and $20 at the door) is a remount of a show staged earlier this year. Burlesque dancers Burgundy Brixx, Chastity Twist, Tylr Bourbon and Rebel Valentine, as well as guests Saffron St. James from Ottawa and Harvest Moon from New York, strut their stuff to Prince tunes played by a live band.
