Vancouver Screen Scene: Seth Rogen, Casey Affleck, Molly Parker, and more

Workaholics stars Anders Holm, Blake Anderson, and Adam Devine will be wreaking havoc in Vancouver soon.

In this week’s roundup, we list a few anticipated TV series that are getting into gear on set and one series that’s wrapping up.

But as expected with the new year, a number of new productions are on the horizon and we’ve got two new ones heading our way to chat about.

First up is a new project, co-produced by a Vancouver-raised star.

Seth Rogen, Adam Goldberg, and Scott Rudin will produce a new Netflix feature with Workaholics creators Adam DeVine, Anders Holm, Blake Anderson, and Kyle Newacheck.

Did you know Seth Rogen is from Vancouver?

Game Over, Man! will shoot here in Rogen’s hometown from March 30 to May 12.

Although story details haven’t been released yet, the action-comedy is being described as Die Hard in a hotel. (Room service, anyone?)

Newacheck will direct while DeVine, Holm, and Anderson will star in it.

In other new project announcements, the ABC TV murder mystery series Somewhere Between will shoot in Vancouver from March 16 to June 15.

The 10-episode thriller-drama series, based on a Korean format, revolves around a mother who knows where, when, and how her daughter will be murdered. She devotes all of her efforts to keep her daughter safe, even though she doesn’t know who the killer is, or why she will be killed.

The cast has not been announced yet so stay tuned for announcements about who’ll be coming to town for this one.

Lost in Space‘s Molly Parker hails from British Columbia.

As previously mentioned, the TV reboot series Lost in Space launched into production today (January 23) on Season 1. It’ll continue shooting until June 25.

This modern update of the 1960s series features B.C.’s Molly Parker, Toby Stephens, Vancouver’s Taylor Russell, and Max Jenkins as the Robinson family as they are forced to rely upon one another as they struggle to survive in an alien environment.

Taylor Russell is another talent from Vancouver.

Indie queen Parker Posey will play the scheming stowaway Dr. Smith (a male role in the original series) and Ignacio Serricchio (Bones) will play a rougher version of Don West.

Meanwhile, it’s going to be a zoo out there as Vancouver is scheduled to turn into an urban jungle.

That’s because another TV series getting its start today is Zoo, which begins shooting Season 3 and continues until June 20.

Zoo

The CBS series is based on the bestselling book by James Patterson, about an onset of coordinated animal attacks against humans and how a team of scientists and others band together to search for a cure.

Season 2 ended with some cliffhangers so you’ll have to wait for this new season in production to hit the air to find out how things play out.

The cast includes James Wolk, Kristen Connolly, Nonso Anozie, Billy Burke, and more.

Casey Affleck’s feature Light of My Life starts on Wednesday (January 25) and continues until March 10.

Affleck, who scooped up a Golden Globe best actor award for his role in Manchester by the Sea, wrote, directs, and stars in this survival drama about a father and daughter who find themselves trapped in the wilderness.

Aside from Affleck, the rest of the cast is yet to be revealed so this is another one to stay tuned on.

While a bunch of productions went on hiatus over the holiday season, the majority got back into business shortly after New Year’s Day.

One that took an extended break was the sci-fi series Altered Carbon, which is back on set after taking a long pause from December 14 to January 24.

James Purefoy

Based on Richard Morgan’s cyberpunk novel, the Netflix sci-fi TV series will continue shooting in town until June 20.

The cast includes Joel Kinnaman, Renée Elise, James Purefoy, Martha Higareda, Leonardo Nam, Byron Mann, and more.

One TV series that is wrapping up is Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, which ends production on Season 4 today (January 23), after having started on November 3.

The series stars Lisa Edelstein as woman who turns to her group of friends for support as she undergoes a divorce and adapts to life as a single.

The good news for fans of the show is that Season 3 is currently on the air, having premiered on January 11.

The sad news is that there’ll be one more season shot in Vancouver—Season 5, which is slated to be the series’ final season. Sob! Well, at least there’ll be two more seasons left to watch.

That’s it for this week, but there’s surely more in store as we head into February so check back in with us next week for what’s shooting on the streets of Hollywood North.
