Filming in Vancouver: Eric McCormack, Casey Affleck, Peyton List, and Once Upon a Time

Travelers starts shooting Season 2—with a very cool city skyline as its backdrop.

There’s lots going on in Hollywood North these days, to say the least.

A lot of films and TV series are wrapping up but there are some new ones just starting their run, including a crime-thriller, an adaptation of a young-adult novel, and a time-traveling TV series.

Coming this way is the feature film Stingray, written and directed by Anthony Hayes and to be shot from April 24 to May 29.

Jon Bernthal (The Accountant) stars in this crime-thriller as a man involved in organized crime who accidentally kills the brother of a powerful crime figure, played by Joel Edgerton (Loving). Hayes will also star in the film as well.

As a result, he is given a two-day deadline to kill off one of his own family members to even up the score.

The Canadian feature film Anthem of a Reluctant Prophet starts shooting today (March 27) in Vancouver and Kelowna in the B.C. Interior until April 15.

Cameron Monaghan

Based on a young-adult novel by Joanne Proulx, the film stars Cameron Monaghan (Gotham) as a smaltown teenager who begins to foresee and predict the deaths of people he knows. Although he becomes a local news sensation, he begins to struggle with his abilities—particularly when he sees a premonition of his best friend’s death.

The cast also includes Peyton List and Juliette Lewis.

Casey Affleck

A major film that’s finishing up here is Light of My Life, which started on started on February 8 and wraps on Friday (March 31).

The survival drama stars Casey Affleck and Anna Pniowsky as a father and daughter who find themselves trapped in the woods after a deadly pandemic has ravaged the rest of the world. Their bonds are put to the test as the father tries to shield his daughter from dangers.

The cast includes Tom Bower (Die Hard 2) and Timothy Webber (Arctic Air).

Travelers

Meanwhile, a TV series that’s starting up its Season 2 shoot today (March 27) is Travelers, and continues filming until July 28.

The sci-fi series stars Vancouver-based actor Eric McCormack follows a team of special agents sent back from the future to the present day into the bodies of individuals just before their death. The agents attempt to prevent disasters from happening, resulting in unexpected changes in the future.

The cast includes MacKenzie Porter, Nesta Cooper, Jared Abrahamson, Reilly Dolman, and Patrick Gilmore.

As that one starts up, two TV series are finishing up shooting this week.

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce completes its shoot for Season 5 today, after starting on January 24.

The series has been shooting Seasons 3, 4, and 5 consecutively, ever since starting back on August 15.

The comedy-drama series, stars Lisa Edelstein, Beau Garrett, Necar Zadegan, Paul Adelstein, Allana Ubach, and Retta, about a divorced woman named Abby and her best friends as they contend with various challenges in their love lives.

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce

In the most recent season on air (Season 3), Abby faced menopause and taking care of a baby while reinventing herself as a romance novelist after being fired from her job. Meanwhile, her friends faced ups and downs in their own worlds of romance, including an affair with a sex addict and questions about marriage.

Once Upon a Time

Later on this week, ABC’s Once Upon a Time, which began back on July 7, ends production on Season 6 on Friday (March 31).

The cast includes Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, Lana Parrilla, Josh Dallas, Jared S. Gilmore, and Robert Carlyle as a group of fairy tale characters who find themselves living in the real world in a town named Storybrooke.

The series shoots many of its scenes in Steveston, a community located in the Vancouver suburb of Richmond.

Once Upon a Time

In the latest season, which premiered on September 25, the characters struggle to protect Storybrooke from Mr. Hyde (Sam Witwer) and the Evil Queen (Parrilla).

The season finale will be a two-part blowout entitled “The Final Battle”, and will include guest stars Andrew J. West (The Walking Dead) and Alison Fernandez (Jane the Virgin).

Also ending on Friday is the filming of the TV pilot The Crossing, which started on March 13.

The sci-fi show, starring Steve Zahn and Sandrine Holt, involves the arrival of refugees to an American town. But they’re not from another country—they’re from a wartorn U.S.A. in the future.

Amid six TV pilots being shot in the city, it was one of the first to start and the first to wrap up.
