The highlight of this year’s summer is fast approaching with the 150th birthday celebration of Canada coming up on Saturday, July 1, 2017. Aside from the free drumming and movies, a food festival, and an open house at the Convention Centre, there is so much to do in the city this Canada Day long weekend, you’re going to need to take extra vacation afterwards to get some rest!

The culmination of the Canada Day events will be happening at Canada Place, which will host a huge two-day party on Saturday and Sunday that’s not to be missed. The event has everything you could ever want: performances, pancakes, and a parade!

Canada Day at the aptly named Canada Place will take place inside the building, in Jack Poole Plaza, and surrounding city streets. Highlights include performances by Sam Roberts, Emerson Drive, Dragonette and other artists on five performance stages.

On top of the performances by homegrown talent, the venue will also host a citizenship swearing-in ceremony, food market, vendor stalls, Canadian Forces exhibit and “youth zone”, and a big firework show to cap it all off at 10:30pm.

The best places to watch the fireworks at night on Canada Day are anywhere along the water in Coal Harbour, including Canada Place, around the Convention Centre, or anywhere along the Coal Harbour seawall between the Convention Centre and the Vancouver-facing side of Stanley Park.

If you are looking for the best seats in the house, grab tickets to the fireworks viewing zone (complete with bathrooms and guaranteed seats) for $15.

The fun doesn’t stop after the last firework on Canada Day explodes. The two-day party will continue on Sunday at 8:30am with a pancake breakfast, more performances, and a craft market.

Best of all, to mark the finale of the event, the Canada150 Parade will take place at 5 p.m. at West Georgia and Broughton streets, ending at Canada Place.

The Canada Day Parade, presented by Port of Vancouver, is a free community parade that features more than 60 dynamic entries and recognizes diversity, multiculturalism and the special bond that connects all Canadians.

The parade starts at the corner of Georgia and Broughton Streets, runs eastbound along Georgia, proceeding north down Burrard Street and ending at West Pender.

It’s a great way to cap off a weekend full of sun, fun, and (hopefully) lots of poutine and maple syrup!
