With the amazing weather in Vancouver lately, the best place to spend these long, hot days is next to the water. Beach bums in Vancouver know that one of the hottest spots in town is English Bay Beach.
A water slide and huge raft, beachside fish n’ chips, and non-stop people watching entertainment, English Bay Beach is the place to be in the summer. But, when you’re spending a day at the beach – usually you have to lug down a bunch of chairs, an umbrella, and a huge cooler with you.
Until now! There’s a new crew in Vancouver that’s working to upgrade your beach game in a big way… The Vancouver Beach Company has partnered with the Vancouver Parks Board to provide rental options for chairs/loungers and beach umbrellas for those who want to park themselves at the beach without having to deal with the extra baggage that usually comes with it.

These aren’t your typical plastic chairs that will fall apart after a few times in the sand. But, the price for comfort is actually quite reasonable. Prices for rentals range from $10 per chair per hour, to $60 for a full-day four chair, one umbrella package. Full pricing details are located here. It’s a specially great deal for travellers visiting the city, seeking a little shade on the beach without having to purchase a new set of chairs/umbrellas for the short term.
The Vancouver Beach Company was initially founded by Nick Lighter, a student-entrepreneur who started the venture while completing his undergrad at UBC last year. Now, with a team of students working both the marketing and the beach attendant side, the company is aiming to elevate the Vancouver beach life.
Aside from the beach chairs, the company also hosts oceanfront yoga with Lululemon on select saturdays. They have also partnered with Foodora to offer meal delivery from over 150 restaurants directly to your beach chair. Could beach bum life get any better?

While this reserve-a-seat business is just a pilot project, the group is hoping to expand the company to other popular beaches including Kits and Third Beach. As someone who hates having to deal with all the baggage that can come with going to the beach, here’s hoping the trend continues!
