Jacqueline Dupuis’ Vancouver Favourites

During her six years as executive director of Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), Jacqueline Dupuis has played a major role in transforming the event into an internationally recognized celebration of screen-based storytelling. Under her guidance, VIFF has expanded its traditional film and industry programming to a “film-plus” model that seamlessly combines curated screenings with compelling panels and citywide events.

Jacqueline is an avid and adventurous traveller – her favourite sojourns include a meditation ashram in India and a yoga-and-surf retreat in Bali – but equally loves exploring her home city. A downtown dweller with a penchant for quietude, nature and wellness, Jacqueline shares her favourite Vancouver experiences that allow her to just “be”.

Small Victory

My favourite coffee treat! I love the chic atmosphere here, and buttery smell of the city’s best croissants. The artisan coffee experience is off the charts, and the people-watching is even better!

One Yoga for the People

This is where I get my yoga on – it used to be a well-kept secret, but I think the word is out! Some of the best yoga and meditation teachers in Vancouver share their practice in this Gastown studio. It’s so healing to immerse myself in the delicious scent of sweat and love, and to feel the history beneath the old wooden floors. After class, I wander down the street for a refreshing protein shake or fresh-pressed juice.

Vancouver Art Gallery Café

This is my favourite urban hideaway. I love to splurge on delectable pastries here, maybe with an espresso or crisp glass of white wine in summer. Sitting on the patio amongst flowers, trees and chirping birds feels like an escape to an oasis – you would never know you’re right in the middle of a busy city (and it’s great for celebrity-watching!).

Stanley Park and the Seawall

Rain or shine, not a week goes by where I don’t spend a good chunk of time decompressing during a long walk along the seawall or in Stanley Park. There are plenty of quiet places along the route where I can meditate surrounded by nature, and I can even literally stop to smell the roses at the park’s Rose Garden. Despite how much time I spend in the park and on the seawall, in seven years I don’t believe I’ve hiked the same path twice.

Blue Water Café

When I need to feel spoiled, I take myself to the sushi bar at Blue Water Café in Yaletown. Off. The. Charts. I float home afterwards feeling like a queen!

Vancouver International Film Centre

This is my favourite place to watch a movies! Comfy large seats sourced directly from France and the best sound system in the city… hands down, this is the best place to sit back and dive into a good movie.
