6 Ways to Get Your Hygge on in Vancouver This Summer

If you’re reading this, you either know what hygge is, or you’re possibly wondering what it is, and how on Earth to say it. So here you go: hygge is the Danish concept of living well and being cozy, and it’s pronounced ‘hue-guh’. And while cozy tends to be associated with autumn and winter, I’ve got some fantastic summer ways for you to get your hygge on in Vancouver!

Have a Cuppa

I don’t know about you, but I drink my tea hot all year round. I’m sure it’s the same for most of you coffee drinkers. As June can sometimes lean towards being what Vancouverites call ‘Juneuary’ (but still sunny!), what better way to start a morning of exploring the city than with a steaming cup of green tea or a tall dark roast to-go? Some local to Vancouver tea and coffee shops are:

Have a Picnic

With all our beautiful parks and beaches with their amazing views, Vancouver offers an abundant amount of idyllic picnic spots. Pop into a grocery store for some sandwiches and kombucha, or perhaps order a High Tea To Go (no, not that kind of high) from the Secret Garden Tea Company in Kerrisdale. It’s a very tasty and Instagram worthy meal option and a great way to enjoy our sea to sky and greenery views. Not to forget some excellent and locally made tea.

Go for a Walk

I probably sound like a broken record by now, but walking around Vancouver is, in my opinion, truly the best way to see the city. And when you toss the sunrise or sunset into the mix, it is truly a hygge experience – especially when you’re on a date! Check out my favourite city strolls here.

Get Cozy on a Patio

‘Juneuary’ or not, patio season is upon us, with many of the best patios in the city boasting cozy seating and warm blankets for the chillier evenings. With its cozy-chic ambiance, Reflections: The Garden Terrace at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia is a particular favourite amongst Vancouverites. Raise a Glass

Vancouver is a mecca for craft beer lovers, and we also have some excellent wine bars (like TWB The Wine Bar at Provence Restaurant– a personal favourite!) Another favourite of mine that has both their own wine and craft beer on tap is The Settlement Building in Railtown. It is home to the aforementioned Belgard Kitchen, as well as the Vancouver Urban Winery and Postmark Brewing. Watch a Movie at Stanley Park

A nice summer tradition in Vancouver is for free outdoor movie screenings at Stanley Park. While the showings don’t start until the beginning of July, they are ticketed and those go quite quickly. Click here to find out what’s playing this summer and how to get tickets.  When you get them, you can order one of the High Teas To Go from the Secret Garden Tea, and grab a couple picnic blankets to get cozy on!
