Counterpoint is a video series that showcases Vancouver musicians, both in performance and discussion. Each episode consists of two pieces: a solo performance, and a combined discussion/improvised musical performance with our host. This structure reflects the two goals of this series: to provide an interesting look at Vancouver’s many talented musicians outside of the context of the group or band with which they are generally associated, and to engage in a dialogue about the nature of music, specifically the nature in which it is related to language.
Vancouver is home to a vibrant local music scene. On any given night one can find diverse performances, ranging from classical to experimental, at venues across the city. From our studio on Main Street in Vancouver’s Riley Park neighborhood, Counterpoint provides an intimate look at these artists.
All of the episodes can be streamed in 1080p HD. For the highest quality audio, (especially because of the prevalence of bass guitar) we advise that you listen on headphones or higher quality external speakers. We will endeavor to publish a new episode every two weeks. On the weeks in between episodes, though, the Counterpoint blog will be updated with interesting bonus content from the shoots, or related articles, interviews, etc., that further advance our understanding of musical language.
This Counterpoint series is produced by Vancouverites Collin Ankerson, Danny Askew, and Matty Jeronimo. Visit www.CounterpointVancouver.com to learn more about this project.
