500+ Students, Teachers & Parents Flashmob Aberdeen Centre Mall

On February 29, 500+ Richmond School District students, teachers and parents did an amazing flashmob at Aberdeen Centre to Usher’s “Without You.”

The flashmob was part of Pink Shirt Day, an anti-bullying campaign that saw students throughout the Lower Mainland (and across Canada) wearing pink t-shirts. Many, like the Richmond School District, created dance performances and uploaded them to YouTube as part of their support for Pink Shirt Day.

Canada Line Shopping Crawl

It’s been almost 18 months now since the Canada Line was inaugurated, and it’s safe to say that Vancouver’s newest SkyTrain line has been an unequivocal success.  Every day more than a hundred thousand riders are whisked back and forth on the line, traveling to home, to work, to the airport and – of course – to the shopping malls.  In fact, sometimes it seems like the stations on the Canada Line were planned out specifically with shoppers in mind.

I indulged in a little Canada Line shopping crawl recently, starting out in Richmond and working my way into Vancouver via the SkyTrain.   I’ve highlighted my stops below, but this is certainly not the only possible itinerary.  If you’ve got a favourite Canada Line shopping crawl, please share your ideas by leaving a comment. 5 Reasons to Visit Aberdeen Centre: North America’s Biggest Asian Mall

I know that malls aren’t for everyone. But the Aberdeen Centre in Richmond merits special mention. Richmond, which is only 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver on the new Canada Line, boasts one of the largest Chinese populations in North America. And the Aberdeen Centre, according to some accounts, is the biggest Asian mall outside of Asia (a confusing but impressive distinction).

In last week’s Georgia Straight, food critic Stephen Wong wrote an article about the incredible Chinese food on offer at the Aberdeen Centre food court. The appeal of Aberdeen, however, goes way beyond food. In no particular order, here are five reasons to check out Aberdeen Centre (just a block from the Aberdeen stop on the Canada Line).
