Star Wars-Themed R2-D2 Jumbo Jet Coming to Vancouver

The force is with … Vancouver.

Japan’s All Nippon Airways has announced that Vancouver will be the destination for the inaugural flight of its unique R2-D2 themed aircraft. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has been painted to look the Star Wars movie character as part of a promotional deal between the airline and Walt Disney, which now holds the rights for Star Wars movies.

The R2-D2 aircraft will swoop into Vancouver on Oct. 18 as part of its debut flight from Tokyo to Vancouver (officially, that’s ANA Flight 116). It’s unclear whether R2-D2 will be making regular stops in the city or report for duties in other parts of the galaxy.

It’s all part of a Star Wars blitz by Japan’s largest airline in the lead-up to the release of the latest instalment in the film franchise, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, slated for this December in North America. Continue reading:

Airline lets Vancouver Passengers Choose Seatmates on Facebook

If you fly often enough, chances are you’ve had the seatmate from Hell:  the guy who won’t stop talking; the baby that won’t stop crying; the little old lady who insists on showing you each and every photo of her 11 Pomeranians.

But what if you could turn the tables?  What if you could preview your potential seatmates in advance and choose one you actually like?

That’s the idea behind an unique initiative recently launched by KLM airlines called Meet & Seat.  Passengers in certain test markets, including Vancouver, have the option of using Facebook and LinkedIn profiles to select the seatmate of their dreams.
