Against all odds, each and every fall, millions of BC salmon fight an epic and awe-inspiring battle.  These fish courageously make their way from the mighty Pacific Ocean to travel upstream on their quest to spawn.  Rivers and spawning channels across the province team with life.  Like the salmon, paddlers, photographers, and fishermen also flock to the rivers to partake in this natural phenomenon.  My paddling partner and I find ourselves joining this annual migration and our destination of choice is the Harrison River.

Vancouver’s Best Eagle Viewing

The eagle has landed! Majestic, powerful, striking, imposing, brave, noble. In aboriginal northwest coast culture, the Eagle has been a source of inspiration for both traditional and contemporary artists since the beginning of time. This amazing creature symbolizes grace and power. The eagle captures my imagination and there is no better place to get up close and personal with these fantastic birds than Mud Bay Park. During a walk, jog or ride along the dyke trail it is not uncommon to see dozens of eagles. Now is the perfect time to go to watch these symbolic birds busy at work building and repairing their nests.

Harrison Hot Springs is not unfamiliar territory to me. I’ve vacationed at the resort on several occasions, always with the same intention – a romantic getaway – and always with a different companion. Let it be known, I never fail to have a memorable time. Yet, despite any of the gentlemen who’ve accompanied me on past trips being around anymore, my relationship with Harrison is still as passionate, committed and memorable as ever. It goes to show that true love never dies.

The Bald Eagles are Back in Vancouver
