My favourite spring ritual is back! Like the rising and setting sun, the change of seasons and the turning tides, each spring you can count on Vancouver’s cherry trees to burst out in a blaze of dazzling colour. In celebration and perhaps with a sense of relief that winter is over, Vancouverites venture outside and partake in an abundance of events and activities focused on honouring our beloved blooms.  It is during this particular time, I eagerly await the announcement of dates for the annual Bike the Blossoms group ride.

Top 5 Event Highlights Scheduled for the 2017 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival

After this dark, wet and unexpectedly snowy winter, cherry blossoms are one of the first cheerful signs of the fast approaching spring season. Unlike last year’s early bloom, the stars of the 2017 Cherry Blossom Festival should be arriving on time at the beginning of April.

Vancouver’s signature springtime event wakes the city up from winter hibernation with an explosion of around 41,000 blossoming cherry trees around the city. April marks the month of the blossom and will features over 20 public, mostly free, arts and cultural community events. So stuff your winter coat into the back of the closet and get out your camera because the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival is here again!

While there are several events to choose from (check out the full list on the VCBF website), below is a list of a few of the highlight events for this year’s cherry blossom festival.

Grease the chain, grab your helmet and mark your calendars – it’s time to Bike the Blossoms!  As part of the 2016 Cherry Blossom Festival, and in partnership with Velapalooza, Vancouver is hosting Bike the Blossoms, a community ride and celebration of all things spring.  I intend to be there with “bells on!”  Over the years, blossom viewing has become an art form and I must applaud Vancouverites on their creativity!  We illuminate the blossoms, we paint pictures of them, photograph them, walk under them, sing about them, talk about them, display them on barges and even toss a few in our salads.  Only our imaginations limit our ability to celebrate our magnificent, flowering cherry trees.
