Are you ready to board a cruise ship to another galaxy?

Throughout April, downtown Vancouver’s FanClub is transforming itself into a “Space Cruise.” Confused?  Don’t worry – This requires a little explaining.

Space Cruise, according to event organizers, is a “charmingly campy Caribbean cruise meets Star Trek, with a hint of Cirque du Soleil and more than its share of sexy.”  Think of it as interactive theatre for grownups, staged inside a cavernous nightclub on Granville Street.

Step inside the doors of the FanClub and you’ll find all the trappings of a cruise ship. Your cruise hostess will help you to your seat and prepare you for the voyage ahead. Meanwhile – mainly to add to the general absurdity – burlesque dancers will take the stage, while a live band rocks away in the background.  And did I forget to mention there’s a trapeze artist as well, swinging from the ceiling in a skimpy outfit?

To top it all off, there’s even an annual International Burlesque Festival (in May) that brings performers from all over the world to shake their ta-tas in our beautiful city.

Burlesque is fun, flirty, sexy, and a little geeky all at the same time. It’s different from simply seeing a stripper, and it is an entertaining and empowering scene that is thriving in Vancouver.

Where to watch Super Bowl 48 in Vancouver

Bruno Mars photo

It’s the Seattle Seahawks vs. Denver Broncos at this year’s NFL Super Bowl XLVIII (that’s 48 if you don’t feel like deciphering Roman numerals). Although Vancouver of course has its beloved B.C. Lions CFL football franchise, having a Super Bowl contender from just a couple hours’ drive south of the border is vicariously exciting, if nothing else.

So you can bet local sports fans will be heading out to get their beer on Feb. 2. We did a scouring of the Interwebs to find some Super Bowl viewing options, and came up with these. Note: kick-off time is 3:30 p.m. PST, the game is in New Jersey (if Chris Christie allows it) and this year’s half-time show stars Bruno Mars. Apparently Mars has also “personally invited” the Red Hot Chili Peppers along for the ride. Continue reading:
