What the — ?? Nicolas Cage burlesque??!

It’s true. Those wild and woolly movie fans at Geekenders are presenting what must be a world-wide first: Nicolas Cage burlesque.

So what goes into such a production? Obviously, Mr. Cage himself won’t be appearing onstage. So does this mean the dancers will be wearing Cage masks? Emulating his acting style? Or just interpretive-dancing through scenes from famous (and some, famously awful) movies like Raising Arizona, The Wicker Man and Ghost Rider?

A popular burlesque take-off on one of pop culture’s most enduring franchises returns for a run this July.

A Nude Hope is a tribute to Star Wars featuring Luke Skywalker and company in a way you’ve never seen them. If that’s still not quit right, there’s also theatre, dance, music and a nerd prom for adults going on this weekend.

Vancouver has quietly reemerged as a centre for the art of burlesque dancing in North America. During the 1940s, the Chinatown neighbourhood was a hotbed for burlesque. Dancers in theatres and speakeasies would toe the line between artsy and sexy, shaking their thing in choreographed routines with scintillating costumes.  Continue reading:
