Then and Now – Vancouver Pride from 1973 to Today

Pride season is upon us, and what is now a full-city of rainbow-coloured events and celebrations, began as a much smaller event over four decades ago. Many agree it all began in 1973, with a picnic and art exhibit in Ceperley Park, near second beach in Stanley Park, as a part of the first national celebrations of Pride Week taking place across Canada in major centres at the time.

Vancouver Will Light Up 2016 With a Free New Year’s Eve Celebration Downtown

Ready the tiaras, prep the noisemakers, and bring the kids – this year everyone is invited to Vancouver’s biggest outdoor New Year’s Eve party!

For the first time in over a decade, Downtown Vancouver and the Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society invites people of all ages to ring in the new year with an evening full of live music, entertainment and, of course, a yell-along countdown to 2016 complete with colourful blasts of midnight fireworks that will light up the sky and echo off the mountains.

Free Outdoor World Cup 2014 Party in Vancouver

World Cup soccer fans in Vancouver have something to cheer about.

The city is hosting a giant outdoor bash for the World Cup final on Sunday, July 13, at Trout Lake near the Commercial Drive neighbourhood.

At the Soccer! Samba!! Celebration!!! party (just look at all those exclamation points) fans can catch the game on one of the largest LED screens in the city.  In addition, South American dancers are set to perform and special stations will be set up for kids to design their own soccer jerseys.

Apart from giving fans a place to show their pride, the celebration is also meant to bring attention to the 2015 Women’s World Cup, coming to Canada (and Vancouver) next year.
