Wondering where to get the best dim sum in Metro Vancouver?  Or the best Chinese BBQ?  Or the best Szechuan cuisine?

Wonder no longer.  The diners have spoken.  Earlier this year, more than 12,521 votes were cast in the Diners’ Choice Awards component of Vancouver’s annual Chinese Restaurant Awards.  The results (see below) are a veritable road map to finding the best Chinese food in a city justly famous for its Chinese cuisine.

Beyond Wontons: Where to Find Vancouver’s Best Chinese Cuisine (Part II)

Despite Vancouver’s reputation for great Chinese cuisine, finding a stellar Chinese meal isn’t always easy in the city.  In my last post, I asked for your advice and talked about the Chinese Restaurant Awards, an annual competition that highlights the city’s best restaurants.

Armed with a copy of the Signature Dish Dining Guide (which lists winners of the awards), I headed to Richmond’s “Food Road” recently, where more than 200 Chinese restaurants are packed within the space of a few blocks along Alexandra Road.  My mission was to try several of the award-winning dishes at Jade Seafood Restaurant, a perennial winner of gold and silver medals in the competition.

Beyond Wontons: Where to Find Vancouver’s Best Chinese Cuisine?

Conde Nast Traveler recently awarded Vancouver a gold medal for its outstanding Chinese Cuisine – the best in the world (China included), according to the article’s author.  But despite this embarrassment of riches, finding a great Chinese meal isn’t always easy in the city.

The best restaurants are often well off the beaten path, tucked away in smaller neighborhoods and below the radar of most diners.  Plus, many restaurants are so authentic that menus are printed only in Chinese, deterring even the most intrepid of eaters.

2010 Edgewater Casino Chinese Restaurant Awards announced

In February, Conde Nast Traveler magazine made official what locals have long known: Metro Vancouver has the best Chinese food in the world.

Today the 2010 Edgewater Casino Chinese Restaurant Awards named the best of the best.

A panel of local foodies that included CBC Radio‘s Margaret Gallagher, the Vancouver Sun‘s Nathan Fong and Ming Pao‘s Iris Yim picked the 2010 Critics’ Choice Signature Dish Awards.
