So a tie-dyer, a ceramic artist and slipper knitter walk into a bar or should I say a giant convention hall and…..so began the annual Circle Craft Christmas Market.

Now in 40th year, the Circle Craft Christmas Market is basically Vancouver’s craft show Greycup. Running from November 7-11 this year, the line up includes artists and artisans from Black Creek to Kitchener, Okotoks to Whitehorse. But some of the niftiest finds are, of course, created by artists and artisans who call Vancouver home.

Presented by the Circle Craft Cooperative Association, the Christmas Market originally kicked off in 1973 at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre (The Cultch). Then it was housed under the sails at Canada Place. Now the fair, which features over 300 fibre, jewelry, woodwork, metalwork, ceramic and other artisans, takes place at the Vancouver Convention Centre West location.

There are a number of new Vancouver exhibitors at this year’s show. You’ll find my top picks from our very own backyard after the jump. Continue reading:

Circle Craft Christmas Market Returns, Nov. 7-11

Gift-giving is an art. As the Christmas buildup gets underway, it’s time to put on your (elfin) thinking cap and start making lists. One Vancouver Christmas event sure to inspire is the annual Circle Craft Christmas Market that takes place at the harbourfront Vancouver Convention Centre, Nov. 7-11.

Long before Etsy, back in 1973, Circle Craft Co-operative debuted their first Christmas Market in East Van, where many smaller Vancouver craft markets still take place today.  38 markets later, Circle Craft Christmas Market is the largest Christmas Market in Western Canada.

Circle Craft is a draw for both Vancouverites and visitors. For many locals, it’s an absolute must-attend for shopping for festive, hand-made holiday decor and presents. For visitors, it’s a rare chance to peruse a gigantic array of B.C. artisans and their Canada-made goods in one place. Continue reading:

Sometimes it can be hard to get in the Christmas spirit when you’re still eating leftover Halloween candy. On November 2, I was at Metropolis at Metrotown and noticed they already had Christmas decorations up!

But if there’s one Vancouver tradition that has the power to start your Christmas gift-giving engine running, it’s the 38th annual Circle Craft Christmas Market, the largest craft fair in Western Canada, and it returns to the Vancouver Convention Centre on November 9.

Western Canada’s Largest Craft Fair: Circle Craft Christmas Market November 17 – 21, 2010

Circle Craft Christmas Market 2010

I know a lot of Vancouverites who make it an annual tradition to kick off their holiday shopping with a trip to the Circle Craft Christmas Market, Western Canada’s largest craft fair.

Back for its 37th year, the Circle Craft Christmas Market surpasses any preconceptions you may have of a “craft fair:” this market is an enormous collection of B.C. and Vancouver artisans who produce a wide range of high-quality products, from clothing and jewelry to art, clay and metal works, home decor, toys, children’s fashion, gourmet delicacies, and gifts.

Fabulous food stalls at the Circle Craft Christmas Market

On Wednesday, I spent an awesome day shopping with my girlfriends at the annual Circle Craft Christmas Market at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Now in its 36th year, this enormous market is Western Canada’s largest craft fair. It’s also much more upscale that the name “craft” may imply; it’s a huge collection of Canadian artisans who produce gorgeous jewelry, clothing, metal and clay works, gourmet delicacies, and gifts.
