ECCW Ballroom Brawl is Back and Ready to Rumble this Weekend at the Commodore

For some reason, watching two (or more!) people beat each other up has long been a popular form of entertainment. Since the days of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock (before he was a famous movie star) and now with a re-emerging popularity – perhaps, in part thanks to Glow on Netflix, wrestling is making a comeback.

You don’t need to tell the stars from the ECCW that. Otherwise known as the Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling, the ECCW is the Pacific Northwest’s premiere indie wrestling federation – and it’s coming to the Commodore Ballroom this weekend. Yes, you read the correctly, a wrestling match in a ballroom! Get ready for one riotous night out!

Want a crash course in the Vancouver music scene? You could do worse than check out some shows this May. In what is probably a coincidence but may be a cosmic alignment, this month’s concerts include a long-awaited reunion by one of the city’s most popular live bands, a tribute to a rockabilly legend, and what may be the “last electric” show by a songwriter many consider to be one of the best Vancouver has produced.

Delhi 2 Dublin was a happy accident born out of Vancouver’s Celtic Fest in 2006. Their sound started as an electronic fusion between bhangra beats and Celtic fiddle and has since grown into anything from dub reggae to breakbeats to just straight up happy dance music. File under… best.

Founded by Tarun Nayar (of Beats Without Borders cred), Sanjay Seran (at the time hailing from live bhangra act Signia), and Ravi Binning (a professionally trained bhangra dancer and dhol player), it was obvious D2D had something people wanted. Continue reading:
