If you’ve heard Dalannah Gail Bowen sing once, you probably remember her voice. The soulful, gritty blues singer has been crooning to audiences throughout the Lower Mainland for more than three decades. During that time, her reputation spread far and wide. In fact, she was elected to the Blues Hall of Fame last year.

But several months ago, Bowen suffered a stroke after performing at a Christmas benefit concert. She remains hospitalized, with an extensive rehabilitation period ahead. Now, music lovers from throughout the province are banding together for an all-star benefit concert for one of the city’s blues legends. For fans of Bowen, and blues aficionados everywhere, it promises to be the blowout of the year.  Continue reading:

Delhi 2 Dublin was a happy accident born out of Vancouver’s Celtic Fest in 2006. Their sound started as an electronic fusion between bhangra beats and Celtic fiddle and has since grown into anything from dub reggae to breakbeats to just straight up happy dance music. File under… best.

Founded by Tarun Nayar (of Beats Without Borders cred), Sanjay Seran (at the time hailing from live bhangra act Signia), and Ravi Binning (a professionally trained bhangra dancer and dhol player), it was obvious D2D had something people wanted. Continue reading:

The Boom Booms are an Indie Soul band from Vancouver, BC. The group consists of brothers Aaron Ross (lead vocals) and Sean Ross (keys), Tom Van Deursen (guitar), Geordie Hart (bass), Richard Brinkman (drums), and Theo Vincent (percussion, drums).

Rock Out in a Classical Chinese Garden: Enchanted Evenings Concert Series is Back

Does the idea of a sunset concert in an elegant 15th-century-style Chinese garden sound like your cup of tea?

Then Enchanted Evenings at Vancouver’s Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden may be just the thing for you. Each summer for the last 22 years, the little walled garden in the heart of Chinatown has opened its gates on select nights to music fans. Groups, ranging from classical piano ensembles to hot jazz bands, perform al fresco in the garden, while guests enjoy the feng shui and groove to the tunes.

This year’s series started July 16 and continues with weekly performances every Thursday until Aug. 20. Continue reading:
