Pulse survey: who loves Dine Out Vancouver? If your answer was ‘yes, I do, I do’ then you will be happy to hear you don’t have to wait until the grey days of January to participate in a Dine Out-esque experience.

That’s right, the ninth annual Taste of Yaletown celebration is back – Dine Out Vancouver’s mini me.

Taste of Yaletown takes over Vancouver’s historic waterfront warehouse district from October 16-27th. This year’s festival of dining, drinking, sampling and sipping features three different set menu prices ($25, $35 and $45), special events and over 30 restaurants. Continue reading:

Wondering where to get turkey and all the fixings in Vancouver this Thanksgiving?  These five restaurants promise diners Thanksgiving bliss without having to spend all day in the kitchen.

  • West: Traditional holiday flavours meet contemporary West Coast cuisine at this Vancouver fine dining institution.  The Turkey Tasting Menu is a five-course feast that can be accompanied by wine pairings.  Start with a Lytton pear salad with Farmhouse Castle blue cheese.  Then move onto the spiced turkey consomme, followed by braised turkey leg cannelloni with black truffles.  The main course is butter poached turkey breast with Yukon Gold potato puree.  And top it all off with pumpkin flan, caramelized pears and orange chiffon.  Oct. 5-Oct. 8; $68.
  • Bacchus: The swanky dining room at downtown’s Wedgewood Hotel is famous for its lavish Thanksgiving spread.  The three-course Thanksgiving Dinner Menu offers up the best of the local harvest.  Start with roasted corn and lobster veloute or organic arugula and baby spinach salad with poached pear and crumbled blue cheese.  The main course is roast free-run turkey with cranberry compote, apple and chestnut stuffing and chive-whipped potatoes.  For dessert, save room for the spiced pumpkin tart with cinnamon ice cream.  Oct. 7-Oct. 8; $55.  Continue reading:

Free Pop-up Potluck Dinners in Vancouver

Think of it as a pop-up potluck – and the whole city is invited.

Since 2009, a group called Alfresco Tonight has been turning outdoor spaces around the city – seawalls, parks and plazas – into impromptu dining rooms.  They provide the tables and chairs, and you bring an appetizer, entree or dessert to share with your fellow Vancouverites – potluck style.

Past pop-up dinners have been held along the Olympic Village seawall, at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown and in George Wainborn Park on False Creek.  The events have attracted from 45-80 people – strangers who come to share food and stories and make Vancouver a little bit friendlier.

Nor is Alfresco Tonight the only option for random potluck fun.

Free Dinner at Milestones on Wednesday

Amidst the excitement surrounding Dine Out in Vancouver, this great deal has gone pretty much unnoticed.  Tomorrow (Wednesday, April 28) is Free Date Night at Milestones Bar + Grill, the popular casual dining spot with multiple locations in and around Vancouver (see here for a complete list).  According to the Milestones’ website,  if you order any meal tomorrow from 4 p.m. until closing, your date can dine for free.

This is the second year that Milestones has held the Free Date Night event.   The term “date” is used pretty loosely.  Any combination of two people qualifies: couples, spouses, even just friends (no romantic attraction required).  The promotion applies to appetizers, entrees and desserts: Buy one and your “date” gets a second one of equal or lesser value for free.

The promotion is part of a whole range of date-themed events held at Milestones, including Wednesday Date Night (dinner for two for $50, featuring a shareable appetizer, two entrees and a shareable dessert).
