Vancouver on Stage: 3 Can’t-Miss Theatre Highlights in March

Vancouver gets well deserved praise as a foodie mecca and as an outdoor playground.  Less well known are the city’s thespian charms.

Throughout the year, the Arts Club Theatre Company, Vancouver Opera, Firehall Arts Centre and dozens of other companies big and small stage hundreds of plays, musicals and operas.  March is no exception.

Here are three can’t-miss highlights on stage this month.  (Got other suggestions?  Please leave a comment below.)

The Importance of Being Earnest; March 15-April 15 at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage:  Oscar Wilde’s masterful comedy traces what happens when two wealthy playboys (one from the city and one from the country) each lead a double life as the mysterious Ernest Worthing.  Considered among the wittiest works written in English, the play documents the pandemonium that ensues when the two Ernests find themselves together – masquerading as the same person yet courting two different women. (Confused?  No worries – That’s all part of the play’s charm.)
