Last Tuesday evening, Aug 19, the line to get in to the Vancouver Art Gallery stretched around the block.
One reason for the mega-line is that Tuesday nights are the gallery’s pay-what-you-can night. Another is that the end is near for the Douglas Coupland exhibit. In an effort to let more people see the hit show, the gallery is extending its hours for this final week.
He wrote a seminal novel that defined a generation. He’s received honorary degrees from three major B.C. universities and is an officer of the order of Canada. He is Douglas Coupland and he is Canada’s foremost commentator on technology, society and pop culture.
Starting this week, Coupland hosts his first solo exhibition museum exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery entitled Douglas Coupland: everywhere is anywhere is anything is everything. The newly-restored Rosewood Hotel Georgia buzzed with eager aesthetes and accomplished artists last night as the hotel debuted their permanent collection of modern Canadian art.
