In April, we wrote about the Hop Circuit, a guided beer-tasting tour of East Vancouver craft breweries. At the time, three new establishments that were on the circuit were still in the planning stages. On Oct. 28, one of those breweries opened its doors.

An Italian-themed craft brewery, Luppolo (1123 Venables St.) is already attracting beer aficionados. On a recent Saturday, we arrived at 3 p.m. – at opening time – along with a few others. By 3:30, the tasting room – with a capacity of 50 or 60 (we’re guessing) – was full.

East Vancouver wins big at this year’s Canadian Brewing Awards!

Vancouver’s Four Winds Brewing won the top prize at this year’s Canadian Brewing Awards, bringing home the Beer of the Year award for its Nectarous Dry-Hopped Sour.

Not to be outdone, East Vancouver – which boasts the highest concentration of craft breweries in B.C. – also put in a strong showing. While the awards were spread amongst brewers all over Vancouver (Four Winds is located in Delta), we’ve compiled a list of all the East Van winners to make your next craft brewery crawl more exciting.

Thirsty for Beer Wars: Craft Beer Industry Barons Duke It Out For DTES Charity, April 17

On April 17 the city’s beer masters put down the pints and put ‘em up in a battle of fists, fighting (literally) to raise funds for a local not-for-profit.

In this spinoff of their popular Aprons for Gloves fundraiser, event organizers corralled the city’s craft beer industry workers to volunteer their participation in a boxing tournament designed to profit one of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside community fixtures, the Eastside Boxing Club.
