Couldn’t get enough of Bruno Mars at the Super Bowl halftime show?

No worries.  You can catch the mega-popular R&B crooner – and plenty of other huge acts – in Squamish this summer.

Tickets for the Squamish Valley Music Festival, Aug. 8-Aug. 10, go on sale Feb. 7.  And it looks like some major talent is about to descend on Vancouver’s backyard.

Apart from Bruno Mars, rapper Eminem, Montreal rockers Arcade Fire, British indie group Arctic Monkeys and legendary rap ensemble The Roots will all be performing at the festival. Other big-name acts include alt pop act Broken Bells, Swedish songstress Lykke Li and Canada’s own Sam Roberts Band.

The high-profile lineup is part of an effort to significantly expand the festival, being held for the fifth year in Squamish, the small Howe Sound community about one hour north of Vancouver on the Sea to Sky Highway.  Organizers have more than doubled capacity to 35,000 people this summer, up from 17,000 last year, according to an article by Francois Marchand in the Vancouver Sun.

The festival will feature four separate stages spread over 80 acres around Squamish’s Centennial Field, Loggers Sports Grounds and Brennan Park.  Apart from the headliners, the lineup will include an eclectic blend of rock, pop, electronic music and hip-hop, with plenty of local talent, including Topless, The Zolas, Good For Grapes and We are the City.

With the expanded capacity this year, organizers are hoping to transform the event from a regional happening to one of North America’s premiere festivals, rivalling a Coachella or a Lollapalooza.  Interested in getting in on the action?
