The Pancakes and Booze Art Show features art, pancakes, and bodypainting.

Since its founding in 2009, the Pancakes and Booze art show has visited more than 20 cities across North America, including Vancouver. Now, the underground pop-up is returning this Thursday, July 14, with more art, bodypainting and pancakes at Fortune Sound Club (147 E. Pender St).

As the title implies, the show is a chance to see some art while eating pancakes (and drinking booze, if you’re so inclined). Typically, the events also include a live art battle, audio and visual performances, and an an all-you-can-eat pancake bar. The idea is for local artists to “showcase their talent without the politics & stuffiness that is commonly found in traditional galleries,” say organizers.

Björk tribute night at Vancouver’s Fortune Sound Club!

On May 14, a host of local musicians will pay tribute to everyone’s favourite Icelandic singer.

The music of Björk, who helped form pop band the Sugarcubes in the ’80s and went on to create a celebrated solo body of work, will be the inspiration for an evening of interpretations and covers.

When asked to describe the scene at Fortune Night Club’s Hip Hop Karaoke, event organizer and co-founder Chad Iverson doesn’t hesitate to think of an answer.
“The demographic is Vancouver,” he says. “Everyone loves hip hop. Everyone has a hip hop track they love.”
