Goh Ballet Presents The Nutcracker, Dec. 18-22 (VIP Prize Package Giveaway!)

goh_ballet

A heart-warming journey into a magical world, the Goh Ballet’s Nutcracker production is the perfect holiday treat for your family. Since the production began six years ago, critics have called it “an outstanding production” (the Vancouver Sun), “a gleaming ornament” (the Georgia Straight) and “the one to see” (the Province). The production quickly became a holiday tradition for Vancouver families and is the only Nutcracker in Vancouver that features live music and a cast composed of more than 200 dancers, including ballet superstar Paloma Herrera from American Ballet Theatre (New York) as the Sugar Plum Fairy. This ballet interpretation of E.T.A. Hoffman’s adored fairy tale, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” is set to the Vancouver Opera Orchestra’s rendition of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece, The Nutcracker Suite.

The Nutcracker in Vancouver: Two Ways to See the Famous Christmas Ballet

Alberta Ballet's The Nutcracker comes to Vancouver

I have many friends who aren’t ballet fans generally but who nonetheless love the holiday season productions of The Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky’s famous Christmas ballet full of Sugar Plum Fairies and dancing mice. One friend in particular has made a tradition of seeing The Nutcracker each December with her goddaughter; it’s a beautiful way to get dressed up in your holiday finery and see a spectacle that encapsulates the spirit of the season.

The Nutcracker in Vancouver: Two Ways to See the Famous Christmas Ballet

Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker

Every year, one of my best friends takes her goddaughter to The Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky’s famous Christmas ballet full of Sugar Plum Fairies and dancing mice. It’s a tradition that began when her goddaughter was just a little girl, and it’s become something they look forward to all year.

Though it is sad that Ballet BC won’t be performing The Nutcracker this year, Goh Ballet’s beloved version will go on, with principal dancers from the National Ballet of Canada accompanied by the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra.

Move fast if you want to catch this holiday gem: Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker is at The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts from December 17 – 20, 2009.
