Things to Do in Vancouver This Weekend

This weekend Vancouver will be painted by the Mural Festival, have its heart opened by the Queer Film Festival, be strummed to by the Guitar Festival, and probably fall over laughing watching a bunch of corgis race. If you find yourself in the dark outdoors on Sunday, look up into the stars – the Perseids will be shooting across the skies in one of the brightest meteor showers of the year.

Things to Do in Vancouver this Weekend: June 22, 2017

The first weekend of summer is full of colour, music, and art! The Vancouver International Jazz festival has begun, bringing music to venues across the city, and out in the streets and plazas. The Dragon Boat festival will be rustling the still waters of False Creek and the Kanata Festival will be amplifying indigenous voices downtown.  New shows are opening in the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Museum of Vancouver, and if you prefer a bit more interaction, there are graffiti art workshops at the Museum of Anthropology.

Guitar-makers from around the world gather for the first Vancouver International Guitar Festival

From June 23-25, guitar makers, players, collectors and aficionados will gather for the first event of its kind in Western Canada.

The inaugural Vancouver International Guitar Festival is three days of master classes, workshops, exhibitions and special events taking place at The Chinese Cultural Centre (50 E. Pender St.). There’s also live music, including a show from Hayley McLean. Fender recently listed the former Vancouverite as #1 of the Top 10 Guitar Goddesses, calling her “the notable Canadian beauty [who] is positively bursting with talent.”
