A Season Preview for the Vancouver Canucks

With temperatures expected to reach the low 30′s this week hockey season may seem a long way off, but here’s a short video to get you in the mood.

And you thought it was too hot for hockey.

Tomorrow night at 5:30 pm, the puck–er, ball–will drop in the 800 block of Granville Street for the final game of the Five Hole for Food cross-Canada road hockey tour, a food-raiser for the nation’s food banks.

(And now that Granville Street is officially closed to traffic, there won’t be any cries of “Caaaaaaaaar!” to interrupt the excitement.)

A snow globe, saskatoon-berry tarts and imaginary pond hockey: highlights of the Saskatchewan Pavilion

Nothing like a little pond hockey (if only in your imagination) at the Saskatchewan Pavilion

Canadian by choice  and not birth, I’d never actually held a hockey stick before yesterday. (I think proper Canadian children receive sticks and skates as birth gifts, much like children in other countries receive silver spoons or gold chains.)

So it was to affirm my love of the beautiful game–um, that would be hockey–and my confidence that our men’s and women’s Olympic teams will bring home gold that I grabbed the chance to don gloves and a stick for a free keepsake photo at the Saskatchewan Pavilion.
