Pride is less than two months away, and the Vancouver Pride Society is getting set to welcome locals and visitors alike to celebrate!

Leading up to the first weekend of August 2017, Vancouver will be aglow with Pride as hotels fill up, party ticket sales are in overdrive, smart coiffures de rigueur and fabulous outfits galore parade the catwalk on Davie Street. When Pride season hits Vancouver and the glitziest party lineup of the year is about to kick off, you can feel the energy take over the city.

Don’t Miss the Last Installment of Reverb, a Queer Reading Series in Vancouver

This is a bittersweet post for me to write, as it’s about the last installment of one of my absolute favourite Vancouver events. Reverb is a queer reading series that has been running for 4 ½ years and this spring’s event is their final one! Hosted and curated by two local queer writers Leah Horlick and Esther McPhee, Reverb is obviously a labour of love. In its own words, Reverb is “an anti-oppressive, reading series for queer writers on unceded Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh land in Vancouver.” Over the years Reverb has featured a plethora of amazing local and visiting writers, some emerging and others well-established, such as Listen Chen, Amber Dawn, Daniel Heath Justice, RJ Edwards, Hasan Namir, Cecily Nicholson, Vivek Shraya, Jen Sung, Hiromi Goto, Pragya Esh, Lucas Crawford, Antonette Rea, Christina Cooke, Larissa Lai, and SO MANY MORE.

Vancouver fans of New York Times bestselling author, radio contributor, and very funny person David Sedaris are in luck! The man himself is going to be in Vancouver doing a free (!) talk and book signing this June 20^th at the Indigo / Chapters bookstore at Granville and Broadway. The occasion is the release of his 11^th book, Theft by Finding: Diaries 1977-2002. This latest book is a little bit different because, for the first time, excerpts from the diaries that are the source of his remarkable essays are available in raw form. The book is available May 30^th, which is lots of time to read it and know exactly what he’s referencing in the talk.

When you walk down Davie St in the heart of Vancouver’s gay village and see the familiar hot pink electric sign for Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium—often known just as Little Sister’s—you might not realize you’re passing a lot more than an LGBTQ+ book and sex toy store. While Little Sister’s is certainly a great place to find queer books (print and digital), sex toys, rainbow pride gear, trans supplies like binders, and more, it is also a powerful queer institution with a revolutionary history.

Vancouver’s Drag Superstars Compete for the 2017 Crown on Feb. 16
