Vancouver Meat Fest Announced

Carnivores, mark your calendars.

A daylong fest celebrating the joys of meat (and beer) is coming to downtown Vancouver.  Brewery and the Beast, the city’s first Festival of Meat, is slated for this Father’s Day, June 16.  Tickets go on sale now.

Held at Concord Pacific Place on the False Creek waterfront, Brewery and the Beast is no ordinary barbecue.  Some 30 restaurants from around the city will be grilling, skewering and carving.  In fact, the list reads like a who’s who of Vancouver meat purveyors, including upscale steakhouse Black+Blue, charcuterie experts Campagnolo, Southern barbecuists Peckinpah, fine dining icons Hawksworth and West and many more.

For Carnivores Only: Inside Gotham steakhouse

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post on Vancouver steakhouses, and readers called me out for some notable omissions.  The one favourite that came up in comment after comment was Gotham.  I decided to check it out last weekend.  I wished I hadn’t waited so long.

Maybe I missed it because it’s nearly hidden in plain sight, in the downtown business district near Seymour and Dunsmuir Streets.  From the outside, all you see is a sign.  Inside is a whole different story.

25-foot ceilings.  Hardwood wainscoting.   Red velvet banquettes.  Pianist playing away in the corner.  Gotham is old-school and elegant, like a classic gentleman’s study.  The main dining room – set with white tablecloths and heavy silver – is open and lively, with quieter tables upstairs and a big bar along one side of the restaurant.

But what about the food?

Best Steakhouse in Vancouver? You Make the Call!

Vancouver may be world famous for its fresh Pacific seafood and cutting-edge fusion cuisine.  But when it comes to a classic T-bone or sirloin, options abound as well.  The city’s premiere steakhouses source prime cuts from the prairies of Alberta and from around the world.

The Keg There are now more than 100 Keg restaurants in Canada and the United States, but the legendary steakhouse got its start right in Vancouver.  A family steakhouse with a comfortable atmosphere, the Keg is known for its well aged beef and tender, flavorful steaks.  Expect a unique combination of class, value and – of course – great meat.
