Granville Street shopping just got a little bit glitzier in downtown Vancouver.

Eight new high-end stores have opened in the revamped Pacific Centre mall, near the space once occupied by Sears at Robson and Granville Streets. Shoppers looking for some luxe retail therapy can now pop into Hugo Boss, Kate Spade New York and UK retailers AllSaints and Ted Baker London, among other stores.

Of course, all this is just a prelude to when the big tenant moves into the new space. Nordstrom has set a September opening date for its new three-level department store in the revamped Sears building. The gala opening is part of a chain reaction in and around Vancouver, as high-end retailers set up shop to capitalize on wealthy overseas shoppers and Vancouverites looking for luxury products.   Continue reading:

The ugly marshmallow palace in downtown Vancouver that was the old Sears building is ancient history. The dingy off-white facade has been replaced by gleaming glass and steel and the interior completely redone. Now it’s time for Vancouver’s retail renaissance to kick into high gear.

After years of renovation, the Pacific Centre expansion on Granville Street is finally ready to take in new tenants. High-end department store Nordstrom, which will anchor the new facility with a 230,000-square-foot space, is set to open its doors on Sept. 18. Meanwhile, a host of chic chain stores will move in this summer and get the retail party started.

From across the pond, U.K. retailer AllSaints is scheduled to open a 2,200-square-foot store on June 17. Known for its “rock-and-roll chic” aesthetic, AllSaints is strongly associated with the music industry, featuring trendy apparel with lots of leather. Later in the summer, U.S.-based clothing store Abercrombie & Fitch will brings its line of casual wear to Pacific Centre. The 4,000-square-foot location will be the first A&F in Vancouver since an outlet in the Oakridge mall closed in the early 1990s.   Continue reading:

Maison Martin Margiela for H&M Launches at Pacific Centre, Nov. 15

Hang on to your (deconstructed) hats. H&M has, once again, collaborated with design royalty, partnering with Maison Martin Margiela on an edgy collection that lands at the downtown Pacific Centre Thursday, Nov. 15.

Rain or shine, this is the type of fashion event that draws a crowd. Only 6 out of the 60 Canadian H&M stores will receive the collection. H&M at the downtown Pacific Centre is the only store on the West Coast to feature Margiela.

Martin Margiela founded his Maison 23 years ago and continuously shoves the boundaries between art and fashion. The Belgian designer’s first collection in 1989 included a leather butcher’s apron reworked into a sultry evening gown. His early use of sculptured silhouettes are responsible for current trends such as high-waisted skirts, capes and leggings. Despite all the buzz about his work, Martin Margiela has never once been photographed for the press, adding to the designer’s mystery and allure.

Read on to preview looks and prices from the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection. Continue reading:

Big news, design buffs. Vancouver’s downtown Pacific Centre is the only BC retail location and one of just two west coast locations to get the exclusive Marni for H&M collection, which launches in a week.

Marni is a Milan-based label known for its signature prints and eccentric statement accessories. Consuelo Castiglioni founded the cult-brand in 1994 and it’s grown to become one of the hottest global runway tickets.

The Marni for H&M collection is among the most exciting gobbets of Vancouver style news this spring. The sporty yet sophisticated spring capsule includes looks for women and men that are actually affordable and wearable. It’s already created a media buzz thanks to the artsy Marni for H&M commercial directed by Sofia Coppola. Then there was the mega-hyped collection launch party with Drew Barrymore, Freida Pinto, Winona Ryder and Milla Jovovich. Get a sneak peek at looks from the collection after the jump.
