Out On The Shelves, Vancouver’s Only LGBTQ2IA+ Library, Is Re-Opening

Queer book lovers in Vancouver have ample reason to rejoice this holiday season because Out On The Shelves, the city’s only library devoted to LGBTQ2IA+ books (and DVDs) is re-opening! The entirely volunteer-run library, where anyone can get a library card for free, has found a new home on UBC’s West Point Grey campus in the student Nest Building after being in transition for the last year and a half having lost their downtown space.

Jeannette Walls’ 2005 memoir The Glass Castle was a sensation. Telling the story of the author’s almost unbelievable childhood, the book went on to sell over four million copies.

Walls has since written two more books. Her latest is The Silver Star, a novel about two young sisters making their way in the world after abandoning their irresponsible mother. Walls is currently on a book tour for The Silver Star, and the tour brings her to Vancouver this Wednesday night.
