It’s Dine Out Vancouver time again. Now in its 12th year, the festival has become one of the city’s premiere culinary events, and for 2014 features over 260 participating restaurants. Besides prix fixe menus at many of the city’s top eateries, Dine Out is also featuring dozens of special food-related events.

To help build excitement for the festival (Jan. 17-Feb. 2), Tourism Vancouver corraled a number of journalists, photographers and bloggers into sampling food and drink from some of this year’s 200+ participants. (Restaurants began taking reservations yesterday, Jan. 7, so if you have been thinking of going, hurry!)

On the evening in question, the assorted media types, including yours truly, gathered together at Tourism Vancouver HQ before dividing up into eight differently themed groups to be whisked away to various destinations. My group’s theme was Dine Out With Friends, and our destinations were… well, read on.

Post a Letter to Santa at Rosewood Hotel Georgia, Dec. 2

As you probably know, Santa Claus is comin’ to town Sunday, December 2, for Vancouver’s 9th annual Rogers Santa Claus Parade. It gets better. On the same day, Rosewood Hotel Georgia celebrates its Heritage Day and wants parade-goers to make the hotel their base during the parade festivities.

The historic Rosewood Hotel Georgia is situated in the heart of downtown Vancouver on the parade route. Visit pre-parade and revel in carol singers, live piano music and complementary hot chocolate or warm apple cider, alongside a forest of twinkling Christmas trees, gingerbread houses and festive flower displays.

As for the kiddos, they get to relive the magic of Miracle on 34th Street – the 1947 version or the 1994 remake – take your pick –  and post letters to the North Pole via the hotel’s original bronze letterbox, a historic feature from when the property first opened in 1927.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. The big man himself will make a surprise appearance at Rosewood Hotel Georgia at some point during the Heritage Day celebrations. But that’s no biggie for Rosewood. Over the last 85 years the hotel has played host to Marlene Dietrich, HRH Edward, Prince of Wales, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Elvis…

Lady Gaga’s Stylist Visits Vancouver and Talks Fashion

Last year, Vancouver was panned as the world’s third worst-dressed city for our love affair with yoga gear. But recently, Global Language Monitor ranked Vancouver as the fashion capital of Canada. The onslaught of celebrity fashion visitors (Victoria Beckham, Jason Wu, Erdem) in 2012 makes this turnaround credible. In fact, perhaps we didn’t deserve the bad rap at all.

Lady Gaga’s stylist Nicola Formichetti was in Vancouver this week and fell hard for Vancouver street fashion.

Formichetti is the creative director at French fashion house Mugler (a role his friend Lady Gaga pushed him to accept) and was in Vancouver to preview the launch of Mugler’s spring 2013 at the Bay on Granville in Vancouver’s downtown shopping district.

While staying at the iconic Rosewood Hotel Georgia, Formichetti had a chance to visit the downtown Pacific Centre shops and dine at L’Abattoir in hip and historic Gastown. Find out his thoughts on Vancouver fashion, working with Lady Gaga and Mugler, below. Continue reading:

Sense Spa at Rosewood makes the most of BC’s natural ingredients

Rosewood Hotel Georgia pool

I was on the hunt for wow-factor Christmas gifts when I found out that Sense, A Rosewood Spa, now open at Rosewood Hotel Georgia, is all about local, natural ingredients traditionally used for healing by BC’s First Nations groups.

Naturally, I wanted to learn more. I got in touch with Sherina Jamal, founder of Ancient Secrets, which makes the Beauty through Balance line used at Sense Spa. She chatted with me about the perks of BC’s super-fine glacial clay and nutrient-packed integrifolia Pacific seaweed.

Find out more about the healing and detoxifying properties of natural BC ingredients after the jump.
