It’s official. Summer is over. You heard it here, (probably not first) but it’s all going to be OK – the sun still warms us and the leaves are all about to get drop dead gorgeous before they drop dead. The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival has arrived, Equinox is next week, and there are celebrations for both this weekend. The final days are here to squeeze in some Playland before it turns spooky in October, catch some Bard on the Beach before the tents get packed up, or find some inspiration at the Fringe Festival.

The Fringe Festival begins this weekend with quirky and site-specific performances and they are in some diverse company; there is also an accordion festival, a Chinese film festival, and a flamenco festival.  There are daytime events to please family trekkies, Pagans, luxury car enthusiasts and horseback swordfighters. If you want to get a bit messy, there is a paint party and yes, the much anticipated annual Zombiewalk is on!

Watch the skies this weekend – the Perseids meteor shower is at it’s peak this Thursday and Friday! Aside from the natural show there is much to do, such as movie marathoning at the Queer Film Festival, getting your run and your dance on at SeaWheeze, taking in some outdoor theatre,  and speeding down a giant slip-n-slide. This weekend is supposed to be much more summery weather-wise than this week, so get out there and soak it up.

Based on the acclaimed film, and with a soundtrack by Elton John, Billy Elliot is an inspiring story of an 11-year old boy’s courage, ambition, and overcoming adversity. Set in 1984 in County Durham, England where coal miners are set to go on strike, young Billy (Nolan Fahey) meets ballet teacher Mrs. Wilkinson (Caitriona Murphy) after his boxing class – and his path is forever changed.
