It might not be the official first day of summer yet, but the season is showing off with its warm temperatures and sunshine. Which means more outdoor activities on offer in my beautiful city! Tough Mudder Comes to the Lower Mainland

Does the idea of plunging into ice water, getting jolted with 10,000 volts of electricity and running through fire sound fun to you?

Then you may be in luck.  Tough Mudder, billed as the world’s most grueling obstacle course, is returning to Whistler this June 22-June 23.  The 10-12 mile course features challenges specially designed by the British Special Forces to test mental and physical strength.

Unlike a marathon or road race, Tough Mudder is not a timed event.  The goal is simply to finish (which only 78 percent of entrants actually do). Many participants describe it as the hardest thing they’ve ever done. Continue reading:

Bored with Marathons? Register for the Tough Mudder and Get Dirty

Running a marathon is an astounding accomplishment.  An incredible amount of mental and physical discipline, not to mention months and months of training, is required to pound the pavement for 26.2 miles.  Vancouver is home to the BMO Vancouver Marathon in May, not to mention the Sun Run in April, one of the biggest 10k races in the world.

But road races can sometimes be a little boring – to run and to watch.  Hour after hour of trotting along at a steady clip just isn’t for everybody.  And that’s where the Tough Mudder comes in – an extreme take on the old-fashioned marathon.

Tough Mudder events are kind of like timed obstacle courses.  Imagine 10-12 miles of mud and water, climbing walls and trenches, all designed by British Special Forces to test not just cardio endurance but strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie.  If that sounds like your idea of a fun day out, you can register online now for the Tough Mudder coming to BC this summer on June 23-24.
