Are you ready for an afternoon of cuteness in the name of literacy? The Vancouver Public Library is hosting a “Canine Library” this Saturday, September 14th from 1 to 3 pm.

The free event will allow participants to “check out” a dog and read the dog their favourite poem during a 15-minute session – leaving plenty of time for some belly rubs and back scratches as well.

There’s nothing quite as nice as enjoying the breeze on your cheeks as you ride through the streets of Vancouver… Which set of cheeks is up to you! Teen Angst Night: A Celebration of Really Bad Poetry and other Cringe-worthy Teen Memories

teen angst night

It’s not a phase mom, god – you just don’t understand!

Most people in their life have jotted down a poem or two to convey the unbearable angst they go through as teenagers. With hormones raging, sometimes all you need is a pad and paper to express those feelings that your parents just didn’t understand.

But, as we grow older and move away from the pain of growing up, it’s sometimes a good idea to look back and laugh hysterically at how melodramatic life was back then. Teen Angst is a comedy show that does just that, and does it well.

Full of comedy gold, Teen Angst Night is a comedic reading series where readers can share anything (poetry, songs, letters, journals, diary entries, essays, plays, lists, etc) as long as it is super embarrassing.

With the recent re-imagining of the Rocky Horror Picture Show (starring Laverne Cox from Orange is the New Black) receiving mixed reviews from TV critics, it will just feel right to watch the original Rocky Horror Picture Show in Vancouver. The one we all know and love, the original Tim Curry masterpiece… Okay, maybe not a masterpiece. But a unique and memorable movie with a catchy soundtrack that always gets stuck in your head. (Just TRY to not start singing along after “it’s just a jump to left“).

With Halloween quickly approaching, you know that the Rocky Horror Picture Show will be making appearances on multiple TV stations on the dial this weekend. But, if you want to experience it as it was meant to be experienced (surrounded by a bunch of new friends dressed up in strange costumes), the Rio Theatre is the place to be.

Are you ready to do the Time Warp… again?
