It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the YVR Vancouver International Airport is known as being one of the best airports in the world. In fact, YVR was named ‘Best Airport in North America’ in a vote by 13.8 million airline passengers worldwide!

Officially, Vancouver has been ranked the #13 top airport in the world, listed closely behind airports in Singapore, Tokyo, Zurich, and England. But, YVR easily tops the list of North American airports – it isn’t until #26 (Cincinnati/Kentucky) that we see another North American airport listed in the awards.

Best of all, YVR has made the remarkable distinction of receiving this top accolade for eight consecutive years! An amazing feat when you consider the competition.

Downward dog in the departures: Yoga at YVR Airport

Vancouver loves its yoga, so it has always been pretty surprising that there isn’t already a YYoga studio at the YVR Airport. Flying can be an anxious and somewhat uncomfortable experience (especially when you’re sitting for more than 4 hours!) so getting a little bit of stretching or meditation in before a flight can be very valuable.

This summer, YVR will be trying out a new dedicated yoga room as part of the Take-off Fridays Festival, the airport’s popular summer event series that features music, entertainment, and family-friendly activities in the terminal. The yoga room will be open each Friday until August 26 from 10am – 2pm.

The Templeton station on Vancouver’s Canada Line is about to get a lot more popular.

Just two stops from Vancouver International Airport, the SkyTrain station currently sees little traffic. But – in just a few weeks time – it will begin welcoming visitors to Canada’s newest luxury outlet mall.

The McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Vancouver Airport – 240,000 square feet of premium shopping and restaurants in its initial phase – is set to open its doors on schedule later this spring. (The exact date is a tightly kept secret.) The unique outlet mall, which has a “European” sensibility, complete with cobblestone streets and sweeping piazzas, will ultimately be home to 80 high-end and designer stores and occupy 380,000 square feet.  Continue reading:

Anyone who travels to the U.S. frequently from Vancouver’s YVR Airport knows about the dreaded customs line.

You may have breezed through check-in and security, but you never know what’s waiting for you in customs.  Sometimes, the line zips along in five minutes.  Other times, the room is packed with hundreds of passengers and you’re nervously checking your watch as it crawls forward.

Well, it looks like those days may finally be over. Continue reading:

As a native Vancouverite, YVR Airport has been the starting point of many of my travels. For me, being at YVR always brings back wonderful memories of starting a new adventure or returning home. But for those who have a layover or have a flight delayed, YVR can be just a place to kill time. Luckily, YVR, recently voted North America’s best airport, is rife for things to do. From shopping to eating to getting a little culture, you won’t be bored at YVR. Here are 6 things to do at YVR other than catch a flight:

1. Watch planes take off.
A public observation area can be found on Level 4 in the Domestic Terminal. It’s the perfect place to watch planes take off, as well as catch a nice sunset. Additionally, the space is decked out with interactive kiosks, a large-scale model of YVR, and information panels. It’s a great place to bring the kids and learn a little about the airport.
