One of the upsides to all of this snow is the justification
to eat rich, belly warming chowder until the wintry chill subsides.
In the spirit of this February soup love, the Vancouver Aquarium is holding their annual Ocean Wise Seafood Chowder Chowdown. Tickets are almost gone so don’t delay!
It’s hard to believe now, but when it was first introduced, Family Day was considered controversial. Many were against the idea of introducing a new holiday and called it a “frill” and “extravagant waste.” Nearly three decades later, Family Day is now celebrated across many provinces in Canada. This year, Family Day is celebrated in BC on Monday, February 18, 2019.
For most, Family Day is the perfect time for people to take a much-needed break and enjoy each other’s company over a long weekend. Luckily, there’s a lot to choose from when it comes to celebrating this special day in Vancouver.
Here’s a look at some of the free and (almost) free activities you can enjoy this Family Day long weekend in Vancouver:
The Vancouver Aquarium’s After Hours events are a fabulous
way to enjoy its many galleries in a much more intimate, kid-free way.
If you’re still in the midst of Valentine’s Day planning and
want something that goes beyond the usual candlelit dinner, the Aquarium has a
love themed event that may be the perfect romantic outing.
Imagine being at the Vancouver Aquarium after hours, wandering its many aquatic galleries while enjoying fabulous food and drink.
The Aquarium’s annual lavish gala, Night at the Aquarium, entails an evening of feasting and dancing, with all proceeds going to Ocean Wise’s conservation, research, and educational efforts.
Spring is just around the corner and – to many school children’s delight – so is Spring Break! From March 17 to April 2, Vancouver Aquarium®, an Ocean Wise® initiative, is extending hours and offering additional programs that will keep the young and the young-at-heart engaged and having fun all break long.
From rolling up sleeves in the Discover Rays Gallery one last time, to watching an exhilarating new shark-themed 4-D movie, to participating in an egg-citing Easter Scavenger Hunt, there is so much to see and do.
An epic and timeless battle plays out in annually in our beautiful province. From late summer until early winter salmon valiantly fight their way back from the ocean to their home rivers where they first hatched. Without a doubt, this is the stuff of legends and folklore! It is difficult to articulate the impact a single fish has had on the people of BC, but suffice it to say the salmon run is unquestionably a marvel of nature.
