Vancouver’s entertainment district is about to get a bit more entertaining.

Soon to be added to the lineup of bars and pubs along Granville Street is a unique night circus.  The Vancouver FanClub, the new venue from the owners of the Yale blues club, is set to be the host of the over-the-top spectacle called Atlantis, which will combine Cirque-du-Soleil-style aerial stunts with burlesque dancing, live music and theatre.

The pilot for the new program will kick off during Dine Out 2014, Jan. 17-Feb. 2, Vancouver’s annual restaurant festival.  Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the FanClub will be transformed with lighting, props and even a trapeze.  Former Cirque du Soleil aerialists will swing from the ceiling while the city’s best burlesque performers strip down and strut their stuff and live bands rock out.

There’s one more twist: All this happens around you while you’re eating dinner.   Continue reading:

2013 saw some pretty innovative and fun burlesque shows in Vancouver, from Star Wars: A Nude Hope to Video Game Burlesque Reloaded. And, with Beatles Burlesque and Dirty Dancing Burlesque, bandleader Blue Morris was at the forefront of bringing new twists to an old form.

Morris’ latest creation looks like it could be one of his best yet – a burlesque salute to the movies of Quentin Tarantino.

Ready to tango?

Few dances are as sultry, as storied or as elegant as the tango.  Now, Vancouverites can  get a taste of sensual Argentine rhythms on the heart of Granville Street at downtown’s Vancouver FanClub.

Every other Sunday, the New-Orleans-style supper club transforms itself into an authentic afternoon milonga – a tango dance hall.  Traditional tangos and valses echo through the atmospheric club, while dozens of dance partners – many done up in dapper suits and sensual dresses – step across the floor.

Are you ready to let down your hair, kick up your heels and get your jig on at CelticFest Vancouver‘s hottest dance party (complete with fiddle, mandolin and just maybe some bagpipes)?

On Saturday, March 16 (St. Patrick’s Day eve), downtown’s Vancouver FanClub will be transformed into a traditional ceilidh.  Hard to pronounce but tons of fun, a ceilidh is a kind of Celtic dance party.  Expect an all-star lineup of contemporary and traditional musicians on stage, plus a room full of fellow dancers breaking into jigs, reels and polkas. There may just be a few pints of Guinness and some whiskey involved, too.

If this sounds like your idea of a fun Saturday night, read on for details about how to win a pair of free tickets.  Continue reading:
