There’s always something fun about wandering through farmers markets in Vancouver. The sun is usually shining, people are handing out free samples of apples, and there’s a neighbourly vibe that makes you smile at everyone you pass.

For fresh food lovers, Vancouver is a mecca for farmers markets. In the summer, there are 6 excellent farmers markets in a wide array of neighbourhoods around the city to make sure that you can get access to locally grown goodies almost every day of the week. Whether you’re looking for veggies, freshly baked bread, or hand-made souveniers, definitely take some time to check out one of these excellent markets:

Get out your reusable shopping bags! Spring has sprung and summer is on its way…and with that, Vancouver Farmers Markets are gearing up for a busy season.

Three of the seven markets are opening this week (Yaletown, Trout Lake, and Kitsilano). The West End market opens on May 30, and three others follow in June.

Vancouver Farmers Markets Kick Off New Season

Fanfare, please. Vancouver farmers’ markets return for the summer/fall season that runs from late May to October in five locations throughout Vancouver. Primp your eco shopping bags and wax your bicycle. It’s time to get friendly with BC farmers.

Trout Lake Farmers Market, the biggest baddest Vancouver farmers’ market, opened May 12, in a glorious blaze of sunshine. Kitsilano Farmers Market opens this Sunday, May 20.

But they’re not the only game in town. West End Farmers Market and Main Street Station Farmers Market will kick off in early June, to be joined by the first ever Kerrisdale Farmers Market in July.

It’s soon Thanksgiving and it’s also (oh yeah) pumpkin and decorative gourd season. Pumpkin patches are a bit of a trek, but the Vancouver Farmers Markets in the West End, Kits and Trout Lake, which are open for another two weekends, are not. Also, do you really want to make a soporific footslog to the grocery store to shop for the big meal when it’s way more festive to get out in that crisp October breeze and frolic with local farmers? I thought not.
