Vancouver gets its first whisky festival

Brand ambassadors from Scotland and around the world are coming to Vancouver to extoll the virtues of the water of life – whisky, that is.

On Jan. 18, at Terminal City Club (837 W. Hastings St.), the First Vancouver Whisky Festival will give participants the chance to taste whisky from Scotland, Ireland, Canada, USA and Japan as well as from such untraditional whisky regions such as India and Taiwan.

Whisky lovers will be able to rub shoulders with bloggers, writers, and connoisseurs who are eager to share their knowledge and appreciation of this elixir, as well as tell us when (if ever) whisky should be spelled “whiskey.”

$45,000 bottle of whisky coming to Vancouver

Then you may be in for a treat. An ultra-rare whisky is coming up for sale in Vancouver and – at around $1,000 or so a sip – it’s bound to be something special.

Scotland’s esteemed Balvenie distillery is shipping just one bottle of a very special whisky to Vancouver this month. Balvenie Fifty was first put into cask back in 1963. All told, only 131 bottles were ever produced. And, according to whisky aficionados, the taste is unmistakeable: fragrant, floral and boasting hints of honey.  Continue reading:
