450 shops at Metropolis at Metrotown
So, it’s raining. It happens; it is Vancouver, after all. Just use it as an excuse–if you need one–to see some of the city’s amazing indoor spaces.
Rainy Day Top 10 – 10 Things to Do When It’s Raining
- Shop Metropolis at Metrotown. Hop on the SkyTrain and head to biggest indoor mall in B.C. There are 450 shops, plus movie theatres, restaurants, and more.
- Bask in the tropics at the Bloedel Floral Conservatory. Situated atop Queen Elizabeth Park on the city’s highest point, the Conservatory is Vancouver’s only “garden under glass”, a hothouse full of tropical plants and birds from around the world.
- Have a beer. I mean, it’s raining, right? Chill out with a tall, cold one at one of Vancouver’s local breweries: Yaletown Brewing Co., Granville Island Brewing, or Steamworks.
- Visit the Belugas–and 70,000 other creatures–at the Vancouver Aquarium. But beware: I think everyone does this when it rains!
- Take the kids to Science World and get blown away by the awesome OMNIMAX Theatre.
Museum of Anthropology
- Hit the museums. Have you seen the new MOA yet? UBC’s renowned Museum of Anthropology (MOA) re-opened with a new wing this March.
- Catch a half-priced show. You don’t have to plan in advance for the theatre; you can grab last minute tickets at Tickets Tonight for same-day performances.
- Gamble. Downtown’s Edgewater Casino has 500 slots and every table game imaginable. It’s like an adult playground, but indoors.
- Do the music scene. Find daily concert listings on The Georgia Straight site or use the Vancouver Jazz Society’s online calendar to find daily live jazz around town.
- Hit the clubs. Vancouver’s nightlife has something for everyone–check out this Vancouver Nightlife Style Guide–and get out and meet, mingle and dance!
