A great park to explore with locals or tourists is Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. The hiking trails loop all through the park within an amazing forest that has some of the largest Douglas Fir trees near Vancouver. The rocky beaches and viewpoints offer great views of Vancouver, Stanley Park and Georgia Strait. The trails are all fairly easy with only a few having a short hill to ascend or descend.

Have a look at the map at the entrance to plot your hike. Follow the main trail straight ahead as it descends downhill until the picnic tables and go right where a path leads up onto a rocky outcrop giving a view of the lighthouse just over the tree line. Another great viewpoint is located at the Arbutus Knol. Take a left turn at the picnic tables and enjoy the amazing view of Vancouver. Continue on the Valley Trail and go down to Starboat Cove, a picturesque beach that is the perfect area to have a picnic and enjoy the view that extends from the Lions Gate Bridge to the University of British Columbia to Vancouver Island on a clear day. Continuing on the Valley Trail takes you back to the parking lot. You can always decide to extend your hike by exploring the Arbutus trail or some of the many other trails in the park.
