Featured Vancouverite: Sarah Bancroft

Hometown: Vancouver, British Columbia

How long have you been a Vancouverite?
I’m a fifth generation Vancouverite — almost unheard of!

Occupation:
I’m Editor-in-Chief of www.vitamindaily.com, an online lifestyle magazine that covers up-to-the-minute fashion, art, culture, and restaurants—all in and around Vancouver.

Favourite place in the city:
The Yaletown seawall is great for people watching, dog watching, and yacht watching—three important Vancouver pastimes. There are lots of parks and playgrounds along the way and good restaurants on either end for a glass of prosecco after all that walking. If you catch the free concerts at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, even better.

Best way to spend a Saturday in the city:
Walking the cobblestone side streets of Gastown; you’ll get a surprise at every turn. New restaurants like the Cork & Fin, Judas Goat, Salt Cellar, and The Diamond are keeping it real, and I also love all of the crazy little galleries and stores like Lynn Steven, with a fitting room made of 3,000 paperbacks.

Favourite Vancouver shop:
When I need a cool gift I head to Vancouver Special—local starchitecture books and unique “objets” from $5 to $500. You won’t leave empty-handed.

Top insider tip for visitors:
Go to one of the Long Table Series dinners at The Irish Heather in Gastown. $15 gets you dinner, a beer, and a seat at a communal table with an array of interesting Vancouverites. Who knows where that might lead?

  1. I would love to be featured! Im not sure if you can nominate yourself but I thought I would try. I have a very interesting story to tell and been in Vancouver long enough to know what my favourite hot spots are!

    Here’s hoping……

    Andrea

  2. I don’t see why self-nomination would be an issue! Will send a note on your way Andrea—thanks for getting in touch.

  3. Can I nominate my daughter ELSA CORSI she is a Vancouver jewellery designer she is celebrating 10 years of jewellery design in Vancouver.

    Elsa’s website is http://www.elsacorsi.com
    and her email is elsa@elsacorsi.com

    Thank you for your consideration.

  4. Thanks Madalena! We have yet to feature a local jewelry designer so that would be perfect. I’ll get in touch with Elsa today.

  5. I’ve been a follower of Vitamin Daily since the very earliest days and it has always been a classy read. Thanks to Sarah, she’s always had her finger on the pulse.

PS, If you are ever looking to chat with local working musicians, come look me up!

  6. Thanks Rachael! I just sent a note on your way.

  7. I love paper and pretty things. Always on a search for the perfect blank notecard to express my sentiments in a personal way, I one day decided to take a risk and create a company of indulgent and beautifully patterned paper goods and aromatherapy products. Every piece is designed, printed and hand packaged in Vancouver. I would appreciate the opportunity to be featured.

    Kindest regards,
    Renuka

  8. Thanks for writing Renuka… I had a look through your website and your pieces are beautiful! Sending a note on your way today.
