Twilight Returns: Vancouver Twilight Convention May 14 – 16

Vendors at the Vancouver Twilight Convention

Today kicked off Vancouver’s first-ever Official Twilight Convention: three days of everything Twilight, from photo ops with stars Peter Facinelli and Cameron Bright, to Karaoke concerts, a Saturday night Volturi Vampire Ball, vampire makeovers by New Moon and Eclipse makeup artist Leslie Graham, and lots of Twilight and vamp-themed merchandise and memorabilia.

Since I’ve been writing about Twilight in Vancouver from the very beginning, I couldn’t resist showing up for the Convention’s first day. There were fewer people than I expected–though larger crowds will show for Saturday and Sunday, especially with big names like Facinelli and Catherine Hardwicke (director of Twilight) appearing–but that only made the event feel more comfortable, more intimate.

One of the great pleasures of fan conventions is meeting the other fans; my favourite part of the day was talking about the Twilight series and other books with JRfm Vancouver’s Jessica Whitworth and Crystal Darche while Jessica got her vampire makeup done by Leslie Graham. (Fans can have their makeup done for free!)

Jessica went for “bitchy Rosalie.” She looked amazing!

While today’s big photo ops with the Wolf Pack’s Bronson Pelletier and Kiowa Gordon cost $65, fans like Christine (pictured below) could have their pictures taken for free with the hilarious, parodic Hillywood quartet:

I love that Twilight fans have such a great sense of humour. (Plus that guy doing Jacob is awesome!)

The weekend is packed with more great Twilight events to come, including Sunday’s Breakfast with the Stars & Charity Auction, during which every attendee gets to meet Facinelli and Bright. Tickets are still available for all Saturday and Sunday’s fun, and entrance to the Convention is just $10.

The Twilight Convention continues May 15 – 16 at downtown Vancouver’s Sheraton Wall Centre.
