Featured Vancouverite: Karri Schuermans

Hometown: Waihi, New Zealand

How long have you been a Vancouverite? 7 years

Occupation:
Owner operator of Chambar Restaurant, Cafe Medina, Chambar Ale, and The Dirty Apron Cooking School, designer, dirtbiker, painter, mother of two, wife to an incredible chef

Favourite place in the city: Spanish Banks and Granville Island

Best way to spend a Saturday in the city:
Morning: Medina breakfast (I’m biased, but life is too short for bad coffee), then getting out of the city and dirtbiking in Squamish or Maple Ridge, or snowboarding on local mountains.

Afternoon: If you are with kids, head to The Making Place that takes place on every second Saturday at the Vancouver Art Gallery, then take an Aquabus taxi across to Granville Island. Also, make sure to catch the sunset from lookout on the way to Cypress Mountain.

Evening: Cocktails at Bao Bei, dancing at Fortune Sound Club.

Favourite Vancouver event:
Aside from this year’s 2010 Winter Olympics, Caribbean Days in North Vancouver.

Top insider tip for visitors:
Head to Commercial Drive and visit these spots: Saki Maki Sushi, Eternal Abundance for organic produce and great wholesome food, Little Nest (kids cafe).
