Food and Wine at the Vancouver Aquarium

Is it wrong to eat fish inside the aquarium?  What if it’s sustainable and Ocean Wise certified?

Those questions and more will be on the minds of guests at the Vancouver Aquarium’s fourth annual Toast to the Coast on Friday, Oct. 22, a glitzy fundraising event held right in the aquarium.  Up to 500 aquarium lovers are expected to crowd inside, sharing space with the belugas, caymans and octopuses for a lavish night of eating, drinking and raising money for a good cause.

Toast to the Coast is catered by some of the best restaurants in the city.  Chefs from Nu Restaurant + Lounge, The Pourhouse, Goldfish Pacific Kitchen and others will be on hand serving up their signature dishes (all fish is Ocean Wise, by the way – fully certified by the aquarium’s sustainable seafood program).  And some of B.C.’s finest wineries will be providing the libations, including Blasted Church, Dunham and Froese, Saturna Island and Desert Hills.

There are also some great prizes up for grabs in the silent auction.  You can win a pair of tickets to a Canucks game, plus access to the broadcasting booth; a night at the Chateau Whistler and dinner for two at Araxi; and even a tour of Chinatown and deluxe dinner with Bao Bei chef Joël Watanabe.

Toast to the Coast is this Friday, Oct. 22, from 7:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m.   Tickets are $75, with all proceeds going to support the aquarium.  Past events have sold out quickly, so reserve your tickets online.  This is one of the aquarium’s biggest fundraising events and probably the most fun the sea otters have all year.   If you’re a fan of marine life – both on the plate and in the tank – don’t miss it.
