It’s true that most of Vancouver’s attractions and activities close down for Christmas Day—December 25, 2010—but there are still plenty of options for people who don’t want to stay home or who are visiting Vancouver.

5 Things to Do in Vancouver on Christmas Day, December 25, 2010

1. FREE Ice Skating at Robson Square
As Julia just pointed out in her post on Holiday Skating at Robson Square, the ice rink that famously re-opened last year (in honour of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics) has re-opened again for winter 2010/2011, including a free skate on December 25 from 12pm – 5pm.

2. Magic of the North at the Vancouver Aquarium
Unlike many Vancouver attractions, the Vancouver Aquarium is open 365 days a year, including December 25! The Aquarium’s holiday celebrations include the winter-themed exhibition of Canada’s Arctic Ocean, The Polar Express 4-D Experience—a 20-minute cinematic adventure combining the high-definition excitement of a 3-D film with amazing sensory effects—and a Christmas Tree lit by their electric eel.

3. Christmas Day Brunch & White Spot Christmas Lunch for Charity
There are lots of options for eating out on Christmas Day in Vancouver—many restaurants are open—but why not splurge with family and friends at one of the luxurious Christmas Day Brunches like the Kris Kringle’s Christmas Day Buffet at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver or, perfect for families with small kids, Christmas Day Brunch at Yew Restaurant? For those who want to dine out, support local charities and stay budget-conscious, there’s the White Spot Christmas Lunch for Charity.

4. Tour Outdoor Art of the Vancouver Biennale
Began in 2009, the Vancouver Biennale brings art and sculpture to Vancouver’s outdoor spaces. Download a map of the exhibitions at the Vancouver Biennale site and tour the art works on foot, on your bike, or by car.

5. Grab a Drink at the Lamplighter Christmas Night Party
Need a drink to unwind from all that family togetherness? Gastown’s popular Lamplighter Pub is open for Christmas Night, from 8pm – 3am, serving seasonal craft cocktails and beer for those who need a Christmas-cheer chaser.
