Free Yoga Classes at Lululemon

Everyone knows the benefits of doing yoga – It clears the mind, tones the body and is a great way to improve your general well being.  The only tiny problem is price.  Good yoga classes, particularly in Vancouver, can sometimes be a bit costly.

But if the price of downward-facing dogs has got you down, there may be a temporary solution:  Head to your nearest lululemon store.  The Vancouver-based clothing designer, now known worldwide for its fanny flattering yoga wear, offers free, hour-long yoga classes at all of its locations several times a week.  I remember hearing about this promotion last year during the Olympics.   I thought it was just for a few weeks, but it turns out that free yoga is here to stay.

Classes are held right inside the stores themselves.  Products are pushed aside and the stores are transformed into instant studios.  The classes are totally free of charge and taught by trained instructors from local studios.

And there’s an impressive array of offerings, from hatha to vinyasa and everything in between.  So why does lululemon do it?  For the free marketing?  For the great Karma?  Whatever the reason, there’s a ton of free yoga out there.  Full schedules by store are available on the lululemon website. Here’s a quick breakdown of classes offered in Vancouver stores during February:

  • Robson Street:  all-levels yoga, Sundays at 9 a.m; ESL yoga (in English and Japanese), Thursdays at 7:30 a.m.
  • Broadway: Not yet listed.
  • Park Royal: power flow, Mondays at 8 p.m.; all-levels flow, Sundays at 9:30 a.m.
  • Oakridge:  hatha, Sundays at 9:30 a.m.; vinyasa, Mondays at 7:30 p.m.
