Tour the Orpheum & Help BC Entertainment Hall of Fame

Vancouver's historic Orpheum Theatre

Vancouver’s magnificent Orpheum Theatre is one of North America’s finest concert halls. Built in 1927, the Orpheum is a designated National Heritage Site, home to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Bach Choir, and Vancouver Chamber Choir, and one of the main reasons downtown Granville Street is dubbed “Theatre Row.”

In July and August, the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame is offering tours of the Orpheum to the general public; it’s a great chance to peak inside this Vancouver landmark and learn more about its storied history. More than that, it’s an opportunity to contribute to the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame: all proceeds from the tours go to the Hall of Fame’s mission to honour British Columbians who have “excelled in all disciplines of entertainment” and to add “stars” to Vancouver’s own “starwalk” on Granville Street (à la the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame).

2011 Oprheum Tour Dates

  • Tuesdays in July: July 5, 12, 19 & 26
  • Thursdays in July: July 7, 14, 21 & 28
  • Saturdays in July:  July 9, 16 & 23
  • Tuesdays in August:  August 2, 9 & 16
  • Thursdays in August: August 4, 11 & 18
  • Saturdays in August: August 6, 13 & 20

To take the Orpheum tour, all you need to do is show up at the theatre’s Smithe Street Entrance at 11am on the day of the tour. The tours take about two hours, and include an exploration of the theatre’s hidden spaces and the backstage area, plus everything from the basement to the dome of the theatre. (Due to a lot of stair climbing, this tour isn’t appropriate for kids under 12.)

The tours are “by donation,” with a minimum requested donation of $10 per adult and $5 for children/students/seniors. As mentioned, all proceeds go to the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame, which, along with inducting members and creating sidewalk “stars,” also provides annual scholarships to young people to help them pursue theatrical training.

Your dates are confusing …maybe they are incorrect…
Saturdays in July are not 9, 16 and 23 those are Mondays !. Your August dates are wonky too!

      Gloria,

This post is from 2011, so the dates are 2011 dates. That’s why they don’t match 2012 dates…. : )
