Topshop & ‘The Room’ Make the Downtown Bay Destination Shopping

Who would have thought that The Bay department store would become destination shopping for actual fashionistas?

Last week, Downtown Vancouver’s The Bay was very busy: not only did they celebrate the grand opening of The Room, a high-end designer boutique that showcases seriously hot designers, they also opened Vancouver’s first Topshop capsule, a mini-version of the London fashion phenomenon.

The Room at The Bay is a 23,000-square-foot space on the second floor of the Bay (the entrance is behind the escalator); it houses 35 hot designers and high-end brands, including Jason Wu, Comme des Garcons, Thakoon, Christopher Kane, and Ralph Lauren Black, chic labels that haven’t appeared at the Vancouver Bay before.

Based on the legendary Regis Room that caters to elite clientele in Toronto, the Downtown Vancouver location—on Granville Street, in the heart of Downtown’s shopping district—is the only B.C. Bay to have The Room.  According to The Vancouver Sun, The Bay hopes The Room will compete with upscale fashion stores like Holt Renfrew and Leone.

If the designer prices at The Room are a little out of your league, you can always browse the new boutique on your way to the trendy—and much more affordable—Topshop capsule, which just opened at the same Downtown Bay on September 15.

In case you haven’t heard, Topshop is a hugely famous high-street shop in London that produces hip fashion at reasonable prices and is beloved by everyone from Kate Moss to Kate Middleton. If the The Bay’s Topshop capsule does well, the department store plans to open an actual Topshop in Vancouver in 2013 (just as they’ve done in Toronto).

Shopped at either of the Downtown Vancouver Bay’s newest additions? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
